Year 5 Skyline Silhouettes05/11/19
As part of our World War 2 topic, Year 5 looked at artwork based on the Blitz, when German planes dropped huge numbers of bombs on London. At this time, the night sky in London was often lit up by the explosions of bombs or the flames from burning buildings. The children’s artwork really effectively shows the contrast between the blacked-out buildings at night and the sky, which looks like it is on fire.
First, we used pastels or coloured pencils to create the effect of the ‘burning sky’, with some of us using smudging to give our backgrounds a smoky look.
After that, we cut black paper in the shape of the London skyline, along with German bombers and their bombs. Look at our fantastic finished artwork!
