Year 6 Visit to Sittingbourne War Memorial

Year 6 have had a really enriching visit to the Avenue of Remembrance and the War Memorial.

We walked up the poppy-adorned Avenue, studying the plaques of those who gave their lives in the First World War. We took with us small sketchbooks, in which we recorded the experience.

The children were a real credit to the town when reaching the War Memorial, demonstrating a mix of respect and genuine interest. Many of the children had been a part of the parade on Sunday, or found wreaths laid by organisations with which they were associated.

The plaque laid to commemorate Donald Dean VC was very much a highlight for the pupils, having learnt of his inspirational gallantry this term.
