Owl Class - Term 3 Art Week

In the last week of term 3 Owl class had Art week. We explored the work of Friedensreich Hundertwasser - an Austrian artist who experimented with bright bold colours, he was fascinated by nature and spirals which are present within a lot of his work.

Owl Class had been learning about dinosaurs in our Free Flow sessions and we enjoyed finding out about fossils and how they are formed. We loved exploring real fossils and observing the different textures and patterns. The ammonites were our favourite as they have beautiful spiral patterns.

After looking at Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s artwork we decided to create our own piece of artwork based on the ammonite fossils we had seen in class. Firstly we used water colour paints to create the background for our artwork, we explored with pattern, mixing colours and added water to blend the colours, we had lots of fun.

Once our background was complete we set to work to make our ammonite spirals. We explored different ways of making spirals with wool, collage, paint and pencils. We used bright colours just like Friedensreich Hundertwasser and created many beautiful mixed media spiral ammonites.

Lastly, we collaged all the ammonites on our background painting, they looked fantastic. We displayed our work to our friends with a tabletop gallery. It was lovely discussing what we liked, and why, about each other's beautiful artwork. Well done Owl Class!
