Geography Companion Project, Term 1 & 2: Interconnected World

Year 4 is a pivotal year in a child's education. As they delve deeper into the world of learning, their understanding of subjects like maths, English, and science expands significantly. Mastering multiplication facts will not only improve problem-solving skills but also boost confidence in other areas of maths. Year 4 students will also explore more complex mathematical concepts, such as fractions, decimals, and measurement. Developing reading skills is another key focus in Year 4. Students will be encouraged to read widely, from classic literature to contemporary fiction. By exposing them to a variety of texts, teachers aim to foster a love of reading and improve comprehension.

Year 4 is also a time for children to explore their interests and discover new passions. By fostering a love of learning, parents and educators can help children reach their full potential.

Here are some of the exciting topics that we cover during the Year.

Invasions

Misty Mountains, Winding Rivers

Ancient Civilizations

Invasions is a knowledge-rich main project that teaches children about life in Britain after the Roman withdrawal. Children will learn about Anglo-Saxon and Viking invasions up to the Norman conquest.

Misty Mountain, Winding Rivers teaches children about the characteristics and features of rivers and mountain ranges around the world, including a detailed exploration of the ecosystems and processes that shape them and the land around them.

Ancient Civilizations teaches children about the history of three of the world’s first ancient civilisations: ancient Sumer, ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley civilisation. Children will learn about the rise, life, achievements and eventual end of each civilisation.

We will create a rich learning environment where our Year 4 students can explore a wide range of subjects. Through hands-on experiences like Forest School and cooking, they will learn practical skills and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

We will also organise educational trips to local sites and educational institutions, providing opportunities for real-world learning and exploration. Our goal is to inspire a lifelong love of learning by encouraging students to ask questions, seek answers, and develop a thirst for knowledge.
